This Mandela day

18th July a day that we celebrate each and every year, what have you done to give back, to uplift, and empower those less fortunate. For me this year was not as special as the previous years. As i was about to embark on my journey to help build a house in my area, we received a call saying that we have lost a family member.

Emotions ran through my mind, we were all shocked, no one knew what to do but we eventually gathered our thoughts and went to the hospital and we were told that she past away an hour before, the only question in our minds was what went wrong because the test came back clear , but we then later realised that cause of death is not important what is important is for us to continue to live and be happy no matter what.

Having someone die before you and you though that they were getting better is a huge slap in the face.  But we had to be strong for the whole family,  just a few days after the news we then heard that another family members has passed away. So you can guess that it has not been a great day for me and neither for my family.  It is these sudden death’s that makes you realise that life is precious and you should live life to the fullest. So what did you do??

“In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes you cant choose the fifteen minutes but why would you be world famous?”

Each and every individual has their own attributes in which they thrive for.. and we sometimes perceive these attributes good or bad.  Every one or in fact every young person has something to claim or offer the world with their uniqueness and ideas, but that is up to the way we execute and present those ideas.

One thing I know I will be famous for is, if not for my big whole heart, then for being able to land a helping hand,  I was raised in such a way that you cannot let the person next to you suffer, if you are able to help then do, and you cannot eat whilst the person next to you is not eating and you know that they are starving. Those are two of the most important principles that were instilled in me not only by my parents but by the community as a whole.

Even though these may seem as nothing or little or that they don’t matter but believe me, they do matter. By me doing that little bit I am actually helping someone and that is seen as doing good. You don’t have to be famous for what you do, but if you are happy and content with whatever you are doing then surely good things shall follow you where ever you go.

Love someone and do something about it.

We all got feelings and  at some point we have either loved or adored someone but the question is what have you dome about that. Well either you have loved or adored you had a choice and a decision was made, a very brave person would tell that someone how you really feel or you ignored the feelings.
Both these choices have consequences :
  •   They could feel the same about you
  •    They could not be feeling the same.

I know this sounds really courageous especially for us (girls), to tell a guy you love him because you get those guys who are really compassionate and you get those I don’t care types. My philosophy is never tell a guy you love him unless you are very sure of yourself. And you can be able to take rejection and humiliation because once you tell a guy that you love him you are obviously admitting to being vulnerable and they can take advantage of and use you for sex and once they are tired they will go.

Telling a guy you love can sometimes work in your favour or  against you. Its quite normal for guys to tell a girl how they feel, i would like to believe they take rejection well as compared to some girls.  Below are my reasons as to why I would never tell a guy I loved him, I don’t care if he is Obama’s son.
  • ·         Rejection
  • ·         Humiliation
  • ·         Being used
  • ·         Being a target
  • ·         Appearing desperate

The list is endless for me, but for someone else who is more courageous, adventurous might take these very lightly and say I will never know what that guy feels about me, I’m very old fashioned a guy should do the chasing and not the other way around, if he loves me will tell me. That’s my philosophy.

The elephant in the room

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when u read the blog title, come on think about it. Okay let me start by saying when I first read the topic I was a bit lost or taken aback, because if we look at it critically  one would think how does an elephant fit in the room in the first place.

But if we take this title and put it to today’s context or way of speech, its quite different. We refer to a fat or full figured or well structured person as an elephant . Whenever a fat person walks in a room there will always be those people who always laugh or stare.

Lets look at this my point of view,  according to the way I see this is there are two types of fat people obese and the ones born to be fat.  Either way we cannot point fingers. No matter how fat a person might be it is not for us to call them names or be judgemental, because you don’t know what names people are calling you behind your back it might something worse.

Celebrating what you have.

I am a very proud of my upbringing and I make sure that I always remember and celebrate what I have. Most people don’t appreciate nor celebrate what they have, is it in our human nature that a person is not content with what they have.

What we need to understand is that we are in that particular place for a reason, to be happy in this lifetime one needs to celebrate and appreciate  what you have. Many  people are not celebrating what they have, they think being poor or being born poverty is a burden which is not the case.

I was born in poverty and if there is one thing my parents thought me was being content and satisfied with whatever i had, the bible is also proof of what I’m saying,  ten commandments clearly says thou shalt not want his neighbour’s wife.  That should be enough for one to cherish whatever little thing they may have.

Every day is a good day

Everyday we encounter many challenges some good and some bad. Some people react to those challenges in a good way and some react to them badly. But what we need to do when we come across these challenges is to take them as they are and learn from them.

I believe that if we treat everyday as a  good day, no matter what troubles we may come across  the best thing we can do is to learn from the troubles and no matter hurt we may be we always need to keep a smile and treat everyday as a good.  Because we know behind every tear we shed laughter and happiness will follow.

Lets face it, if we don’t go through the trial and tribulations we will never learn nor will we grow, so the best thing to do is embrace every moment and we must always remember to always keep a smile because whenever one smile it feels like a load of burden is lifted from your shoulders believe.  And you also need to know that whatever you might be going through someone, somewhere is going through a similar if not worse  problem, so for that reason you need to always treat everyday as a good and remember to always smile no matter what the circumstance or situation.

‘I am an African’

The greatest pleasure we all share is that we are all Africans and dare no one say otherwise. The first step to happiness is to acknowledge your being, accepting the past and looking forward to the future.
A few days ago we celebrated Africa day and what better way to celebrate the day than to be proud of beings Africans, is it you are green, yellow, and white, black and navy we should all be proud of beings Africans

Our former president Mr Thabo Mbeki delivered a speech entitled “I am an African” This speech is one that helps us understand where we come from. One thing that saddens me the most is that we as Africans we would rather forget our roots, I can gladly say that I am proud to be an African, not just an African  but a black young women leaving in such a diverse country like ours. If we could all accept and learn to tolerate one another we can achieve great things.

While some young people are not proud, they would rather forget their roots and some wish they can change their ethnicity, i say take a moment and reflect on your history, use it to enrich your knowledge don’t use history as a tool to suppress others. Let’s rather learn from the past, and use it to brighten and better our futures.

Mr. Mbeki said... ......“I owe my being to the hills and the valleys, the mountains and the glades, the rivers, the deserts, the trees, the flowers, the seas, and the ever-changing seasons that defines the face our native land”......

This speech is the one that motivates me and reminds me why I am an African. I wouldn’t want to change anything about me, i am me because im unique born and raised into poverty but that does not define who I am, I AM AN AFRICAN

“I am the child of Nongqause; I am he who made it possible to trade in the world markets in diamonds, in gold, in the same food that my stomach yearns”

I AM AN AFRICAN
